Portland Stained Concrete Floors | Acid Stain Flooring
A concrete stain is a durable and affordable flooring solution in basements, kitchens, restaurants, and many other applications. The stain can be a simple one color stain, or we can use two or even multiple colors of stain to give the floor a unique, mottled look. We can work with you to help you decide the best option for your floor- whether that would be a single color stain with a water based acrylic sealer, or a multiple color stain with a urethane that is extremely durable and can hold up against heavy foot traffic.
Our process begins with diamond grinding the entire concrete slab in order to profile the floor so the coating will adhere properly. Diamond grinding removes surface contaminants such as dirt, oil, salt, and other bond breaking barriers. We can also use diamond grinding to remove old coatings such as epoxy, carpet glue, old stains, floor paint, thin-set, and black mastic. Following diamond grinding, we spray on the dye stain using an airless sprayer to ensure an even distribution of the stain. We like to spray 2-3 coats of stain using progressively more concentrated dilutions of stain in order to produce the mottled look of stained concrete. The solvent based stain dries extremely quickly, allowing us to apply the clear coat the same day. We have multiple different clear coat options to choose from, depending on what kind of traffic the floor will be handling and the customers desired finish. The result is a one-of-a-kind concrete floor that is truly unique ad beautiful.
Clear Coat Option 1: Water-Based Acrylic Sealer
A water based acylic clear coat is a low sheen sealer that gives the floor a warm feel to it. This is a good option for those looking to avoid an overpowering high sheen in the appropriate setting. Includes 2 coats of the water based epoxy. It is ideal in residential basements. It also looks good on aged concrete; having a low sheen can help hide some of the imperfections of an older slab.
Clear Coat Option 2: Epoxy Sealer
This clear coat is much brighter and shinier than the water based. It will enhance the color and give the floor a very rich, luxurious look. This application requires sealing in the stained concrete with 1-2 coats of a 100 percent solids epoxy in either a satin or gloss finish. This is a good option in a retail shop, restaurant, oranyplace where a higher sheen is desired.
